Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
Not saying he's doing a bad job, but no-one seems to be talking about Jocky as much now?

On the pitch is a side show at the moment, despite the do gooder lapdogs trying to prevent the protests by claiming otherwise.

Possibly because he's only a symptom. I'm not remotely impressed with him but It's the board who are the disease.

Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
The only difference between us under bilic and moyes is we had Lanzini match fit for a period and Arnautovic has decided to try
Moyes is a one trick park the bus pony
He’s a boring cunt of a man who is perfectly reflected by HIS team
I don’t think we’ve dominated a gain and had a possession of over 50% since he’s arrived like Brighton did yesterday and we’ve played all the shit teams and fucking Shrewsbury and Wigan, even the Huddersfield game they dominated possession and it was only the front two that were the difference
Like bfs he has no idea how to set the team up to go and win the game by just dominating because he has better players than the other team

I'm still hoping Moyes can get us playing attacking football Norflundon.

I know Allardicci can't and is well on the way to early retirement and another big compo cheque from Everton but I'm hoping once we have some attacking players back....

I think Moyes has done a half decent job.. he has got us playing some decent stuff and we were going down under Billic with a wimper. If we go down now at least some ( me included) will say we went down with a bit of fight.

Norf,

I said yesterday that Moyes should be accountable for performances and yesterday was poor.

If you take away having a world class player in Payet during the first season how many games did we dominate under Bilic and have more possession?

I went to 5 home games in 2017 all under Bilic and only one of them did we have more possession or create more chances than the opposition and we lost that game against Leicester. Another of those games was against Bottom of the table Hull where we won 1 nil thanks to a soft penalty and Hull hit the woodwork 3 times and were all over us.

Why did Arnautovic start trying under Moyes?
Surely part of the strength of a good manager is making them want to try their best for you?

Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
We had a basic motivation and fitness problem under Bilic and we have/had gone some way in addressing it under Moyes. If you can't see that, you are probably squinting pretty hard.

(Whether the transfer window/African stuff undermines the motivation remains to be seen. One game judgements are not my thing.)

We got a defensive bump from those changes and now Moyes has to prove it wasn't just that. It will also be seen whether Moyes will be doomed by not pushing for/pulling the trigger on a central midfielder (if that was his call).

He is out of the initial phase, he will have to prove he can do more. His man management and seeming honesty is for me a plus, he will need to show more to drag us somewhere positive.

Spot on Norf.

Moyes is Alardyce lite.

But I think the reason he is being left alone is because it really doesn't matter who the manager is while the owners are still here.

This is Moyes best season for years.

Regardless of any amount of money spent or not spent, the squad and even the starting 11 yesterday should be beating Brighton's. We are 12th in the league when we should realistically be around 8th and this is because of the lack of investment (mainly replacing players that have left) plus under performing players / management that remain.

Hopefully he's doing enough of a job to keep us up, but for me he's not doing enough of a job to prove he can take us forward next season.

The Board make the decisions. Cheap short time gap. If things go belly up, they will fire him and let him carry the can,

The two biggest problems yesterday for me were the central midfield as well as the defensive play of our wing backs.

Kouyate played very well against Palace but was complete anonymous and it had a knock on effect, so I take that point. (Why? Time will tell)

But are the four other players in the positions I mentioned good enough taken together?

I really want Byram to succeed but losing hope. Cresswell is can be great crossing the ball but need protections. Noble can't be trying to be a defensive midfielder and if Kouyate has decided not to show up, that midfield with Zabeleta gets very slow.

It's all about balance, Pop Robson took ballet lessons to improve his balance and it worked a treat for him, it's not known if he wore a tutu however?

Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
That performance yesterday was unacceptable and the manager and players need to be held accountable for it.

The board are a disgrace for failing to improve the squad during the transfer window alongside all the other broken promises but I am also fed up of the manager and players being exempt from criticism just because the owners are shit.

This thread could just as easily be aimed at Bilic as he most definately got a free ride bcause of all the angst towards the board. How many times after a heavy home defeat did i hear the blame put on the stadium or the owners?

The football under Bilic without Payet was fucking terrible and the football now is not great either.

The owners will get their deserved criticism on Saturday but the manager and players should not be spared the criticism when we play shit and yesterday was dreadful. No excuses.

Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
Swindon

You just illustrated my point perfectly we are exactly the same as under bilic.....leaking goals left right and centre and getting dominated, tbf to moyes you have to give him credit for working out Arnautovic is a lazy cunt that won’t track back so he’s made him a No 9 where he doesn’t have to do that other than that we are exactly the same, in fact if you watched both games against Brighton we were far worse yesterday than the home game where we dominated the first half and got done on the break
You make the point about only dominating when we had Payet but that’s the point I’m making imo if Moyes has payet at the top of his game he still wouldn’t set up the team to go and win...that’s why he failed at Man Utd because he couldn’t adjust to having better players and trying to get on the front foot and dominate its allies to him you only need to watch the cup games against Shrewsbury and Wigan to understand that. Look at Brighton yesterday they haven’t really got a decent player in their entire team but they played us off the park.

Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?

I think that’s a bit of a lazy simplistic view. It’s ok saying they were all unfit blah blah blah but that doesn’t take into account all our influential players had virtually no or little PRE season due to injuries Lanzini Arnautovic Antonio Noble kouyate Reid
Anybody who doesn’t understand how much of an effect that would have on a team may be the one squinting.....

El Scorchio 3:18 Sun Feb 4
Re: Could all this angst about the owners give Moyes a free ride?
No. It’s a total mixture. You only have to look on here to see that.

He’s made some mistakes but IMO he’s trying to do his job with a hand tied behind his back in terms of an unbalanced squad, massive injury list and clearly very little in the way of resources from the owners.

Doesn’t get a free pass but there are a lot of things he can’t do anything about. I bet any money whether he ever mentions it in the future or not that he’s very displeased with our transfer window activity. Only way I could see otherwise is if they’ve said to him just hold on until summer, keep us up and we will get rid of and bring in whoever you want.
